On September 24, 2026, the S4 Biology core team of 25 students at Delia Memorial School (Broadway) had a kick-off of the Soyvestors Education Programme 2.0, which will last for the next 2 years, with their first hands-on workshops. Soyvestors workshop introduces students to the essential biology, growth stages, and agricultural significance of soybeans, establishing a three-to-four-month “seed-to-seed” growing and observational journey. The activity commenced with an introductory lecture covering soybean growth cycles and basic cultivation knowledge, followed immediately by a practical workshop. Each student received their own soybean seeds, soil media, and planting containers, actively preparing the substrate and sowing their individual beans to initiate long-term growth tracking.
Beyond teaching core content, this workshop played a vital role in elevating student motivation and practicing scientific skills. Taking direct ownership of a living seed sparks natural curiosity and transitions students from passive learners into active scientific investigators. Furthermore, the workshop embedded key aspects of value education and biosecurity. By nurturing a plant over an extended period, students develop responsibility, patience, and a humanistic appreciation for agriculture and global food security. The success of the first workshop equipped students with the technical skills, scientific mindset, and ethical responsibility needed for the project.
