In this course, students were taught the basics of neuroscience and mental wellbeing by Yusuf, an instructor who is trained in the field. We were also thrilled to have Ave, a Delia Broadway alumni now studying Biology at the University of Hong Kong to be our co-instructor for the course. Students learnt brain hacks rooted in neuroscience to conquer their everyday stress and anxiety, and explored how positive experiences can shape their mind through interactive activities and experiments. At the end of the course, students conducted research on everyday factors that affect the mental wellbeing of teenagers in Hong Kong (e.g. overuse of social media, extreme beauty standards in the media they consume etc.) and presented their neuroscience-backed solutions in front of mental wellbeing experts who served as judges for the final presentation day held at the University of Hong Kong.
The ‘Mind Over Matter’ participants impressed the judges with their in-depth research, accurate application of neuroscience concepts taught in class, and their own analytical skills! The most valuable skills learned in the classes include research skills, analytical thinking, teamwork, communication, public speaking, presentation skills, neuroscientific concepts, learning about in-depth biology and using the power of neuroscience to help cope with everyday situations.
