Community Services 2024 – 2025

Beach Cleanup Service (5/7/25)

In this program organized by BGCA, volunteer members will enhance their knowledge about the community service in environmental protection and understanding about the importance of ocean protection through training sessions and experiential-learning activities.

On 5/7/25, 21 students participated in a beach cleanup at a beach near Tai Lam, Tuen Mun. They were working in groups, picking up the rubbish and recording the types. At the end, they have cleared up more than ten bags of garbage, mostly plastic waste. Through the social service experience, students understand the impacts of human on the environment and learn to be more considerate in their daily life to reduce their harms to the nature.

Pet Volunteer Services (20/6/25)

On 20/06/2025 (Friday), the guidance team organized a volunteer training session for Pet Volunteers, aiming to enrich our student volunteers’ experience and provide value education. During the training, students learned about the situation of pet keeping in Hong Kong, the responsibilities of keeping a pet, and the reasons for pet abandonment in the city.

On 21/06/2025 (Saturday), the Pet Volunteers participated in a practice session of the Pet Volunteer Service. In the morning, they visited a pet shelter in Yuen Long (Arc Dog Shelter 動物救援收容所之家) where they fed the animals, primarily cats, and assisted in cleaning their cages. The students thoroughly enjoyed their time at the shelter, engaging with the animals and contributing to their well-being. Following the shelter visit, the volunteers went to a cat cafe in Tuen Mun to further their understanding of cats and unwind in a relaxed environment.

Overall, the training and service day provided the Pet Volunteers with valuable insights into pet welfare issues in Hong Kong, hands-on experience in caring for animals, and opportunities to support local pet shelters. The students demonstrated compassion, responsibility, and a commitment to making a positive impact in the community through their participation in these activities.

Meridian Health Exercises 經絡健康操 (23rd March)

On March 23, 2025, ten dedicated students from Delia Memorial School (Broadway) participated in the Meridian Health Exercise event, organized by the Community Medical Education Services Association (HK) at Domain Mall, Yau Tong. This event aimed to promote health and inclusivity among diverse ethnic groups while sharing the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine.

To prepare for this meaningful role, our students attended three workshops—each lasting about two hours—where they learned two different exercises tailored for the elderly. One exercise was designed for those who are mobile enough to stand and move easily, while the other catered to individuals with restricted movements. Despite being young and flexible, our students initially struggled with these new exercises. However, with time and practice, they adapted and became more confident. Many even shared that they felt relaxed while practicing, which was a rewarding experience for them.

This program  provided our students with a heartwarming glimpse into Chinese culture and fostered a sense of connection with the community. A key highlight was how this initiative aligns with our school’s academic year plan for 2024-2025, focusing on promoting a healthier lifestyle among students and encouraging them to give back to society.

As health ambassadors, our students engaged the public, inviting bystanders to join the exercises, breaking down cultural barriers and fostering unity. In addition to their live demonstration, they were also involved in filming their healthy exercises to create an online video resource. This video will be posted in the near future, with the hope of reaching not only the elderly in Hong Kong but also the general public, further promoting these healthy exercises. The impact on the community was evident, with attendees—including expressing their appreciation for the students’ enthusiasm and efforts.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Community Medical Education Services Association (HK) for organizing this event and providing our students with this opportunity. We also wish to express our gratitude to Mr. Cheung Kwan Sheung, an associate professor at the Hong Kong University of Chinese Medicine, for his patience and dedication in teaching our students and sharing his knowledge. A special acknowledgment goes to Ms. Kwok Yin Lai, a member of the Sham Shui Po District Council, for facilitating this valuable experience for our ethnic minority students. We truly appreciate the support we’ve received throughout this rewarding experience.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the association in future initiatives that promote health, well-being, and social harmony in Hong Kong.

Here is a report the event by an online media (in Chinese).
