Broadway Buddies program

Description:

It is a student development program in which senior form students serving as mentors provide guidance to junior form students through participation in various activities.

 

Objectives:

For senior form students, they are expected to develop leadership by taking care of S.1 students. They could also develop empathic character through providing help to others. Further, as a leader they could also gain recognition from others and thus boost up their self-esteem and self-confidence.

 

For junior form students, with the help of the senior students, they are expected to have a better adaptation to the new study environment. Meanwhile, they could experience the feeling of being loved and taken care of. With the support of others when they are in adversity, stronger resilience can be formed.

 

Though contribution to the school and society and love from others, participants are expected to develop stronger sense of belonging towards the school and the society. The atmosphere with “love and care” can also be created.

 

Programme details:

 

Composition of BBs (mentors)

– A total of 20-25 BBs Senior form students (S4-S5) are recruited. These students are expected to have outstanding performance in different areas: academic, discipline, personality, sports, arts, leaderships, etc.)

 

Composition of mentees

– In the first year of establishment, it is expected to start in a smaller scale. 2 S1 classes would be participating as trial.

– Therefore, the total number of mentees is 80-85

– The ratio of mentors to mentees would be around 1:4

Lunch arrangement

Ø Once per two weeks according to the schedule

Ø Bring them to RM 401 and have lunch gathering together

Ø Let the mentees after 12:30 p.m. if they have finished their lunch

Ø Inform the mentees’ class teacher in the morning time if you are suddenly not available.

 

After school tutorial arrangement

Ø Discuss with the mentees to fix a regular day for the tutorial

Ø Please ensure they don’t have any other tutorial, ECA, religious or family activities on that day

Ø Tutorial is expected to be last for 45 to 60 minutes

Ø Tutorial is expected to be carried out in the mentees’ home room

Ø In the tutorial, both BBs and mentees are freely to work on their own

 

 

In order to strengthen the sense of belonging towards school and make a relaxing days after the Unified Test, the Broadway Buddies (BBs) Programme

organized an outing activities on 23/4/2016 at Jordan Valley Park.

 

On that day, the mentees (S.1H and S.1E students) enjoyed the mass group games prepared by their Buddies (from S.4-5 students).

Although the weather was hot and unstable, the big peace of grass land associated with the effort of the Buddies and the cooperation of S.1 students,

participants were highly involved in the games and had had an exhausting morning.

 

Class 1H and 1E tried their best to compete against each other in the group games. The competition was tight and finally ended peacefully with a tied result.

Meanwhile, the Buddies demonstrated good leaderships in holding the games.
