Biology Field Trip for S5
On February 26, 2025, the S5 biology students had the opportunity to visit the Ho Koon Nature Education cum Astronomical Centre, sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen. As part of their studies on biodiversity and ecosystems, they explored a freshwater stream in Tsuen Wan and engaged in field studies. Utilizing the knowledge, they gained in biology lessons, the students collected water and algae samples. By employing quadrats, they identified various organisms in their samples, discovering fascinating species such as the Hong Kong Newt, frogs, and various sea organisms such as mayfly lymph.
Following their fieldwork, the students conducted laboratory analyses on the water and algae samples they had collected. They gained valuable hands-on experience using equipment such as pH meters, light meters, water flow meters, and dissolved oxygen meters.
All of the students gained a chance to present their field studies in front of the class as well as the teachers there, enhance their communication skills.
Overall, the students enriched their field experience and laboratory skills, but most importantly, they learned the importance of environmental stewardship and developed a sense of respect for nature.
